Default Anyone running Type R cams...Vtec engagement point??

Anyone with type r cams, whats your vtec engagement set to?

I know its specific to every setup and needs to be found on the DYNO, unfortunately my tuner didn't take the time to do this, I know because my basemap and my current tune have the exact same settings. Just looking for people that have experience with this and the general range

lower boundry set to 4800
upper boundry set to 5300

Actually seems kinda low for ITR cams, pretty sure my basemap came off a car with gsr cams

Type r head/cams
gsr block 9.5:1
skunk2 ultra street IM
Ramhorn Manifold
Boosting @17 PSI

I wouldn't go changing your vtec engagement point unless you know for a fact your tuner tuned the whole low cam and high cam maps.

Good point I was wondering about that....I always knew stock ECU uses different maps for HI/LOW cam

Yeah when I tune mine the plan is to tune the low cam maps from idle to about ~7k rpms, then tune the high cam maps from ~3k rpms to redline. Once that's done I'll play around with the vtec crossover point.

I could definitely see some so called "tuners" being lazy and not fully tuning all the maps. That could turn into a major problem if you start moving vtec crossover around to an untuned part of the map.

4400 was a guess, Then verified on the dyno

I use Neptune rtp but I don't have a map yet cuz I haven't started my build yet lol. But I'm probably gonna start with the p30 ignition maps as they seem to be smoother and a better starting point. Typically the stock part throttle ignition maps work well without many changes, but maybe someone else that has tuned more cars then me can chime in on this.

You could post up a screen shot of your ignition maps for some input too. What are your afrs doing when it stumbles?

You tune low can get the baseline then tune vtec and see where the engine wants the crossover to happen. Every engine is different. If your tuner doesn't know these basic steps find a new one

If you're tuning your self get on a dyno and see where the engine wants it it's pretty clear to figure out

first pic low ign second pic high ign

Your ignition map looks nice and smooth. Your stumble is definitely afr related. You would need to add fuel to the low speed fuel map where it's going lean. Try to keep it as smooth as possible, for example don't just add 10% to one cell and make a huge spike. Try to taper it into the surrounding cells. It helps to look at the 2d fuel map when you do it to make sure it's still smooth. Just make small changes, log and check afrs, and repeat until your problem is resolved.

Dude! thankyou so much!!! for holding my hand on this it really helps. Yes When I was studying the maps I noticed everything used gradual increases for a smooth transaction, I was already thinking I should do what you just said but this gives me alot more confidence that I was correct ...thanks again

I will check my phearable base map in that area as well as I dont remember having the stumble before I took it to the local tuner

quick question does my high speed ignition look too conservative ? this is on 17PSI

Ohh and by the way on dyno day he didnt have access to AFR via logs, cuz we couldnt figure out how to hookup the wires properly at that time....I had to do that myself I needed to hookup the analog ground from my aem wideband into the hondata internal connector

No problem dude alway happy to help. You didn't post a screen shot showing the boost columns, you would need to select "show 3 bar" in the settings.
