Default Buying a 1983 Accord

I'm looking into buying a 1983 Honda Accord. I know very little about hondas in general, and even less about the older ones. Any information on what I should look for in general, along with known issues and concerns would be helpful.

The owners straight up says it may need some work. He has rebuilt the carb, but has issues with it again. He also *thinks* it might be burning some oil. It seems to me the slam dunk answer for the carb is to replace it with the weber 32/36 kit.

My main reason for getting this car, is because I drive 70 miles a day, so economy is the goal. When I search on what kind of MPG this gets, it seems to be a mixed bag. Some have shown clear up to 45 mpg, and then some reports show only 32. Some insight here would be helpful.

I don't mind this car being a bit of a project, but I have to do a cost/benefit analysis. With the "potential" problems this car has, I think his asking price of $1000 is a bit high.

Here is a link to the CL add:

The car itself seems pretty clean for it's age. I may try to run a compression test when I get there, so it would be helpful to know the thread size of the spark plugs, as well as what size spark plug socket I'll need to bring.

Thanks,
Scott
