Can you install ball joint boots without the Acura tool?
Hi All,
I am curious if anyone here has installed new boots on the ball joints on their RSX, and if they got it done without the Acura ball joint installation tool? The tool is $46 and I am trying to avoid having to buy one. If you have done this, please let me know. Thanks.

I was just thinking I would put the boots in place and then move the metal clips up over them and into the final location groove.

LOL. There's a tool for that?!!! I use my fingers. Maybe a flatblade screw driver or a pick to straighten the band out sometimes.
Put the boot on first. Then Slide the band on. You may have to kind of unravel it as it goes on. You'll see. Its easy.

To close this thread out, its very easy to install the ball joint boot without a tool. You pack the boot with grease and then slide it over the retaining lip on the ball joint. The new clamp is a thin piece of spring steel that goes around twice. So you place it at the bottom of the boot and then lift one end of that up into the retaining groove on the boot. Then you continue to lift along the spring and work it around the boot until the whole thing has been drawn up into the groove. Kinda like putting rings on a piston.
Ball joint tool at autozone, gotta find that honda-tech link. But you need 2 kits from the zone and you should be good to remove and install ball joints smoothly.
