89 CRX Si CEL codes 6 and 15
Code 6 - Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT)
Code 15 - Ignition Output Signal
So, I got some codes after my CEL came on again in my 89 crx si.
Here is what happened...Car started perfectly fine when cold, drove it to the track no problems this time. as i'm sitting in the staging lane getting ready to make my run, my CEL comes on so I figure I'd shut the engine off and fire it back up to clear it before my run...bad idea! it would just crank and crank and not lite up. tried tapping the main fuel relay, but I could hear my pump come on so I know it cant be that. Let it sit for a few mins without trying it and it barely came to life after stumbling and running rough for a few seconds then it ran fine. I smelt fuel pretty heavy so i believe it was flooding.
Now, the codes above are what I got (6 and 15) someone mentioned the coolant temp sensor my effect the voltage on the injectors and it may have been causing the hard start when hot, but another guy said the ignitor is going and causes the same thing. I'm going to check my service manual as soon as I get home to see if i can test the temp sensor somehow because that part is way cheaper than a distributor. Has anyone else run into this?
thanks

he is correct - most likely a bad igniter - common problem when it gets hot - the code 6 is probably just the ECU searching for something wrong - fix the igniter and the code 6 will probably go away
igniter is around $50
igniter is around $50
just to update the thread for those that might run into the same problem...
I ended up replacing the igniter and the coolant temp sensor since I had both codes.
my starting problems are now gone and the car now idles normal when hot so I think both were in need of replacement!
