Default Mounting bumper without support

I've got a 91 HF and bought it with front end damage. That means it came with no front bumper or bumper support. HF's are impossible to find as are CRX's, even in junkyards, so the possibility of finding one used is zero. Online places like rockauto no longer carry them.

Is it possible to mount the bumper without the bumper support? Perhaps some simple brackets can be fabbed up? Ideas plz??

Fabricating brackets is always an option if you have the skills to do so. You're better off searching for a parts car and getting what you need though. If you get into an accident with only a bumper cover or a poorly secured bumper you're engine is likely to end up in your lap.

could it be as simple as a .080 steel plate cut to size and just drill some holes through it?

Can't say I'd recommend it. It really sounds like your best bet is to find a parts car, or find an EF in better shape and then use your current one for parts.

Bumper supports are mostly there to save insurance companies money on parking lot fender benders, which are the most common kinds of accidents. There to protect your radiator and lights. Their usefulness for occupant safety is highly overrated. Look at the regulations. They're rated up to 15mph.

On an EF, there are just mounting points across the top for the bumper plastic IIRC. You could make something out of box steel.

lol,

funny thing i found a bumper support on JC whitney! Of all places.... lol. Everywhere i looked no one offered them. JC whitney showed the bumper support doesn't fit an HF, but fits an SI. Seeing as how i know the HF support will bolt up to an SI, i'm fairly positive this will fit. Obviously it is the heavier version that the SI's come with, but whatever it doesn't matter that much. I can take a grinder to it if i really want to shed weight. I'll report back later if this JC whitney sourced bumper support fits well. And it was only $60 shipped to boot!!
