As many people, I was lured into honda-tech by deschlong's posts of rares goodies and DIYs.
I'm from Portugal and I own an EG3 civic (JDM entry level model) with a carbed D13B2 engine. It's not a very common engine for what I know but there is some good information and mod ideas arround the internet (altough I don't plan to do much, it's good to have the info in case I change my mind :D).
The main focus for this car is a restoration and adding some optional 5th gen civic parts and retrofits.
So far I've fulyl serviced the engine, no more leaks. Upgraded the brakes for the EG6 brake sistem. and installed Koni Sports Shocks.
The next phase will be the clutch (wich is barely existential at this point...) and afterwards some eibach springs to improve the stiffness.
After all the healthy bits are taken care of, my intention is to repaint it red and do an overall bodywork and rust checkup, so he can get his looks back! As of now It's a red/pink mixup as you can see by the pictures.
Fully stock
In the meantime I've already upgraded the headlights, wich not only were a looks upgrade but also a safety upgrade, as the old ones didnt't shine at all (the inside mirror didn't reflect any good due to 20 years of sun damage, my high beams looked like low beams) paired the headlights with some Nightbreaker bulbs for the best lighting.
Depo Black Casing Headlights With OSRAM Nightbreakers + Hood Mask
Since this picture was taken I have already upgraded the blinkers to amber and removed the hood mask (I'll put it back again sometime, but for now I'ts stored) but havent taken any pics of it yet..
Also scavanged arround for an arm rest for it and had to order the metal bracket to fix it to the chassi, It came out pretty good and nto only gave me a resting place for my arm, but also an extra storage compartment!
Armrest installed
I have loads of ideas of things to mod in it but mostly i'm hung back by the lack of parts, as this generation civic is kind of hard to find arround junk yards here (people just don't let them go.... they prefer to keep 'em arround and sell the parts them selves).
A couple of things I'm looking forward to do are the foglight kit installation (wich requires a specific foglight button, as i only have 1 space free for it)
and, you'll say i'm nuts and throw rocks at me, install an EK civic ICU to add the key in ignition door open beeper (we don't have that here, and i find it cool don't kill me D: )
so yeah...
this was my long intro post thing. Hope you guys enjoy!

So... I ordered an American ICU to add the beeps nobody likes.
Iguess my car didn't like it either, he was beeping kinda wrong, and lost a bit more functions than I expected.
We should have some sort of table graph thing with every ICU part number and their functions. I tought the one I ordered would only leave me without the "door open lights on chime", but it also removed the intermitent windshield wiper function. and liek I said, they didnt like each other that much as the beeps didn't go normally and it started to smell like... barbaque?...
Burnt rail. Fixable, but won't work on my car.
It's supposed to only make the beep when you have the key in the ignition and the door open, and a shorter beep when you're in acc. mode. well, it just stopped when in acc. and kinda stopped altogether after a few minutes of bbq smell
My wiring... works with my ICU, but it has alot of elctrical tape fromthe previous owner. I indentified the cobra alarm module while messing under the dash.
as for the intermitent wiper, it didn't workat all. Like, the other wiper functions went normal, but the first one just didn't. I had to manually unplug it to "park" the wiper in place.
But the oddest part is why the beeps beeped out of place. They'd play everytime my door was open, regardless fo key in ignition, and when in accessory it would just stop.
could this ICU be bad?
I ordered this ICU based on my research, that late model EKs would fit EGs, and they'd have a mix of both countries functions.
I'm so disappointed :c
And I am saying you should verify functions and wiring on your existing ICU vs the one you got. From what I recall, EDM ICUs vary a lot in different markets and might be wildly different from USDM, therefore won't always be plug n play. Did you verify any of this beforehand or just plug it in and go?
@deschlong I went for the destructive testing... plug and go, hope it works lol
any Idea if I could use an accel coil on my distributor? i think the fitment is the same, but the connections arent... I'm thinking about doing an ignition tune up
Kind of an update on the car:
The carburetor broke down on me, so I had to speed up a plan that I had thought out for the long run and do the mini-me faster.
Initially it was going to be a thing where I purchase one part, maintain it, upgrade it and repeat until I'd have everything set and done to install. But like I said, it had to be sped up in order to get it back up and running..
So I started off by purchasing a fuel tank from a PGM-FI EG civic, and fuel lines along with fuel filter.
The lines are ok, but the tank itself was in a rough shape. alot of superficial rust and the pump wasnt all that great either. And being the part that it is, I wasn't going to let it be like that, because after being installed it would be a long time until I'd have a chance to fix it up.
So me and a friend of mine started removing the rust and paint until it was all shiny and rust free. At that point we gave it 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of black paint and it looks brand new!
The pump will be replaced by a brand new walbro 255 (don't know if it can be overkill, but it certainly is cheaper than an OEM one, and if I ever wanna go boosted i know I have the fuel there.
Fuel delivery aside, I started looking for a D16Z6 head. Got a great deal from an awesome guy who sold me the head, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold. All in very good condition, the head had been recently maintained. New valve seals, no rust, no corrosion, and it was aligned (I don't know the correct term, but it was made sure it was straight and not warped).
I ordered some gaskets and sealants from my local Honda dealership just to make sure no oil is going out of the engine. cleaned all the gunk from inside the vtec solenoid (bought from another guy) new seals, shiny shiny clean!
Valve cover will be repainted just to get a fresh look (It's not that bad, but might as well go at it while it's off you know?), spark plug selas and cover gasket is also ready to go in.
So by this time I already had the head, intake, exhaust, timing belt, engine loom, and some bits and bobs. The big chunks missing were a distributor, airbox, ECU and wiring.
Bought the distributor and airbox in very good condition, but will be putting in new seals onto the distributor as well. And got a P28 ECU mailed to me!
As of now all i'm missing is the fuel pump, Air filter, Spark plugs and wires, head gasket, and O2 sensor. Which I'll be ordering this week from the UK.
The wiring that's missing (from engine to ECU and pump) will be bought by my mechanic, as I'm having some trouble finding it and he has better connections to find them.
I'll insert some photos of all the parts later on today so this gets a little bit more interesting to read and see.
Big text aside, as of next month she'll be a 1.3 liter sohc vtec. or a D13Z6.
