Default 1990 Honda Accord Trans won't move when hot!

Ok here is what's happening.

I went from Greensboro to Boone for the weekend. As I returned, I got all but 2 mins from home. Stopped at a light when I went to take off again it shifted in to second then the RPM's started to climb as if it was slipping. Made it into a parking lot shut it off, waited about 5 mins, restarted, it moved. I thought could it really be that simple? NO!! As i proceeded out of the parking lot it lost movement again.

Checked forums and Mad Mike from this site (on another post) said if there is a grinding/whining noise coming from the POC motor/trans then its most likely the Torque Converter. So I pulled the motor/trans and changed the TC. Still nothing, the noise is still there until i put it in gear (reverse first then drive) after a few seconds it engages and noise stops. Only to return a few seconds later and movement stops.

Changed the Solenoids (top/bottom) cleaned the speed sensors. Drained the transmission and at the end of the draining a black slug came out. Replaced fluid and it will make it to the end of the driveway then starts the high rev/slipping again. Shut car off, wait 5 mins then I can reverse back up the driveway and park it.

I am at my wits end. Just replaced the motor and now it looks like I need to replace the transmission as well, unless you guys can help me fix the one I have.

Please Help !!!

Not sure where you got that idea to replace the TC. Post a link.

My usual response for whining bellhousing area and non-functioning trans is due to cavitation in the pump. Sump pickup is clogged with material. No flow, No go.

Park the car so the engine side is higher than the transmission, let the car sit and drain out any additional gunk. Add a hydraulic cleaner for safe use in ATs and add that on your next change. If the transmission functions longer or starts to work again, repeat the process to remove as much material from the sump as possible. Just use DEXIII(cheaper than Honda ATF) while clearing out the trans. Can usually get that stuff by the gallon for ~$20.

Ok i did find the post and youre right you mentioned a sump, sorry. I looked online for a Hydraulic cleaner and could not find one, can you post a link or recommend a name brand to look for? Also i am not familiar enough with trans's enough to know where or what the sump is.

Judging by the description should I remove the trans and rebuild it, changing the filter, clutches/steel plates. Or do you think the fact that it does move that all that is good? I am going to try you method first of course after I can find the cleaner, but i am asking to try and save time and money.

Which I have a lot of both in it at this time. The only saving grace is the fact that I do all the labor my self. Just pulled the engine out and swapped it in just 5 days no help. Timed it, checked valve lash etc. and the trip to Boone was the first real strain on the new motor and it performed wonderfully.

I know why I replaced the TC too because I saw another post, because as you know you look over and over at different posts when you try one and it doesnt work. There they said that if at constant speed that are what seem to be slight hesitations or what seem to be bumps in the road could be a bad TC.

Mike sorry for rambling on but I love my honda it has been very dependable till now and I would really like to get this thing running right.

Patiently awaiting your response,
Mike
