Default 1998 civic dx hatchback engine swap? What else on the car do I have to upgrade?

New to the forums, sorry in advance. I have a 98 civic hatchback with a d16y engine. I brought it to a shop and they said I need to replace my rack and pinion.

My question is, if I did a swap to a b16 or b18, what other parts of the car would I have to reinforce/ upgrade (if any)?

Because for a k20/k24 swap, don't you have to heavily modify the suspension to be able to run your car safely and accommodate for the extra power?

I have very very little knowledge of cars. If I do a swap I'm more than likely going to have it done at a shop or have a friend help me. But I just wanted to see if a b18c swap (for example) would require some kind of high performance rack and pinion, or if I could just use an oem one? What about the shocks and struts, are Honda oem ones good enough?

Any and all information on my car would be very helpful!
(still trying to learn to navigate and search on here, sorry in advance if this was already a thread)

Also, my civic is an automatic. General pricing for an engine swap and transmission conversion would be appreciated.

Lastly to people with 96-00 hatchbacks, which do you prefer/what are you running and why? B series or K series? In hatchbacks specifically*

And what about gas mileage? Don't 2000 civic si's get better gas mileage than hatchbacks?
