b18c1 idle issue please help
hey guys i have a problem with my honda its a 1996 honda civic dx with a b18c1 in it i bought it from a guy about a month ago. Its running obd1 so anyways the problem im having is when its running the idle moves alot up and down whether its warming up or warmed up if it warms up the idle is super low and when i drive it warmed up it will shut off when i put it in neutral, also say i give it 50% throttle it will bog really hard and try to get going, i have changed spark plugs and wires, fuel filter/pump, cleaned the ivac, also i have changed the tps but i heard you have to position it or something like that? dont know if thats adding to the problem but yea. If anyone has any idea that would be awesome thanks again.
no check engine lights i also replaced the o2 sensor it had a check engine light for that but it was wired in a bad quality till i could wire it properly the check engine light went away once i fixed it but still idles and runs badly
You need to deff recalibrate the TPS sensor if you replaced that! search on how to do it its not to hard just need a volt meter. That bogging at 50% throttle is the engine going super rich! i mean in the 10's or even 9's! its a fail safe feature the ecu is trigering to avoid the engine going lean and causing damamge. The TPS sensor is what tells the ECU how much fuel to use at the given Throttle position, throwing that calibration off will make the ecu go rich. After calibrating it reset the ecu by disconecting the neg battery terminal this will reset the ecu and clear any cells. If it still drives like poop, try replacing the IACV it sounds like thats the real issue from the symptoms, i could only imagine how bad it runs with the TPS off and a bad iacv..
so i changed the ivac and i calibrated the tps but i forgot to reset the ecu -____- but it still turns off idk what is going on with it i heard that there can be alot of fumes that can collect in the head so tomorrow im going to try to relieve some of that pressure and reset it ill let you know what happens
Are you using platinum spark plugs? My integra thinks platinums are delicious and eats them for breakfast, use OEM copper! Throttle position sensors are a bitch to calibrate. Calibrate it at WOT (wide open throttle) first, THEN at closed! ( I believe its 1.5, and .5 could be wrong) I literally just had a problem with my EACV (NOT IACV!!) which is a code 14 on my 92. (electric idle control) The IACV is not electric on my 92, the EACV is! Replaced it and now im all good. My experiences have been, bad platinum plug, loose IACV (serviceable on 92), screw FELL OUT of the rotor, bad ECU, and starter FALLING OFF. These are probably not COMMON problems, but hey, just some things to look for.
Also these cars use coolant temp to adjust idle control. Make sure your system is clean, and your thermostat is good.
