Is it harmful to relocate my battery to hatch?
Hi there,
I've been wanting to relocating my battery to the trunk for sometime now so I finally did some research and bought some material. Unfortunately I hit a snag and need to clarify a few things before working on it.
I read that car battery release explosive gasses when being charge and discharging. Which is why it is recommended you vent the battery box in the trunk. So my concern is that since my civic is a hatchback without backseats(most I've read are sedan), would the battery fume cause an issue if the box is vented to the cabin?
Any help/clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 1991 Integra and my Battery is relocated to behind my passenger seat, I will be drilling a hole with a tube and venting battery to under car, as long as you properly vent the batter out of the car you should be fine,
The battery box I got has big venting ports on the side so it's not sealed in a way I could connect it to a tube and venting it to outside of the car, hence my dilemma.
Same issues I am currently having with my Battery Box, I will be drilling a 1/2'' hole and run a tube to outside of car for extra ventilation, so its just an idea id drill on the side of box

My main concern with relocation is safely securing the battery. I'm very concerned with it coming lose during an accident and having a 15lbs weight free and behind me. I've made some beefy supports when I relocate. I didn't vent, and didn't die. But then again I am a god, so that could be why I haven't died.
I use Shuriken sk BT 20 batteries, EXACT same battery as the Oddysey for about 1/2 the price.

Get a smaller battery. I picked up a tiny one made for a riding lawn mower (I think?) back when I had my rex and it free'd up a lot of room.
Like I said earlier in the post. I want to relocate the battery purely for aesthetics. I want to slowly tuck my wires away. Therefore it's relocating the battery is the first thing on the agenda. If you don't have any comments that helps please keep them to yourself.
Thanks to those who gave some suggestions. My solution to the large vent on my battery box is to get a sheet of see through plastic(not sure what they are called), cut to size and replace it for the lid piece. Then cut a hole on the side of the box for venting and wires.

A sealed batt/ like ones mentioned is the best way or a sealed batt. vented to the outside.
Defiantly mount it solidly, watch your cable gauge, cable gauge will depend on length.
Do not use splitters run the batt .cable from batt. pos.[+] post directly to the starter motor, run a 6ga from the starter, [same terminal] to the engine bay fuse box.
A fuse/breaker needs to be installed on the batt. cable as close to batt. as possible.
Your done. 94

Not quite, how would you wire up your alternator? Would you also fuse the alternator?
My current plan is
Battery - fuse box(150amp) - distributor - one to starter, one to fuse box, one to alternator(with a 80amp fuse).
This is just what I found on google search.

It's a mugen. The metal decal got damaged from antifreez so I just machinesd it all level.
I had it clear coated alluminum then painted it black. I might strip the black paint

Adding the "distributor" just adds connections that are not needed, every connection in a point of resistance, and potential fail point. 94
