Default Gringo's JRR/ER Honda Package Motec M130 + C125, 5 Speed Dogbox 200mph thread!

So the past couple of years i have been slowly creeping up on my goals with this car. First it was lets go 180mph in the 1/2, then it was 185 and then obviously 190 was my next goal.

Last year in Colorado i hit my goal and went 190.8mph. At that point i was like, well really how fast can this car go. Ive seen what it takes AWD cars to do 200mph and its pretty crazzy the power it takes some of those cars to do it. For me, it never really was the power but the Traction.

After having great luck with the Hondata S300 + Traction control i wanted to go to the next level.

Ryan over at Rywire did the harness for me, Came out great!

Love the Dash so far.

John Reed over at John Reed Racing has been a long time friend of my boss' at English Racing and thankfully he is about 30 mins from our shop. So we decided to do a Custom Honda Specific Package for my car. The package will be able to use a Stock honda Cam/Crank trigger, T1 Cam trigger and Rywire Cam/crank trigger also.

John and my boss Lucas on the first start up. It was really cool to see it all happen/start up so easy!

The other big change for the car this year is the Dogbox. One of the companies we work closely with on our Drag Evo X built us one hell of a Transmission for that car, so i had them build me one that suited what i needed. 1. A Gear set that can take the power i put down, 2. One that is geared to go as fast as i need it to.

And here it is!

I must admit, i have never personally assembled a Dogbox myself but i sure learned with the help of one of my guys at the shop. The trans shimmed up pretty easy i will say. Once that was done, in the car it went.

With a few days left before TX2K16, we were able to get the car tuned and small bugs worked out.

When we arrived in Texas, i had realized i had not done a SINLE pull/Rip on my car other than 4th gear dyno pulls. Now i am normally not one to go 2400 miles with an untested car but there simply was no time before we left with the rain and everything else going on we were not able to do anything!

3 of the 7 cars we took down to TX2K:

First day of TX2K16, first test and tune run i must say i was super surprised. EVERYTHING worked. Traction control, boost control, transmission i mean everything lol. I was beyond impressed for the first pass to be almost the same mph as last year, with less boost!

Last year my best mph in the 1500Ft race was 163.xx, and my first pass this year was a 162.79. Best pass of the weekend was 166.xx mph, and i had a Revlimiter set at 9600 rpm in 4th because my qualifying mph was 162 and i cant go more than 5mph over that number in Eliminations. I know for sure the car WILL go 170mph+ in 1500ft.

Highlight of the weekend was running this TT R8. He told me its a UGR Stage 3 car, 6 speed and Gated shifter (Which id imagine is a pain to shift).

And the Video here:

It was a good race. Guy in the R8 says he starts in 2nd and ends in 5th. So id imagine thats killing some mph on him. That being said, i ran more boost than i ever have in 4th and it took it all!

If you listen in the video you can hear the revlimiter somewhere around 0:24 about 100-150ft before the finish.

So whats next? Well hope to get some more testing and dialing in with the car/new ECU and really hope that i can get the car to do 200mph in the 1/2 mile, which will be a hard task but should be fun!

Expect big things out of this car this year!

Nice update! You had a good launch on the R8 from the start and just continued to pull away!

Im sure it has been answered 37464 times but what size of tire are you running? They really fill the wheel well perfectly.

good updates! I was hoping to come out to TX2k this year with my car but had a few set backs.

at -2.5* camber, do the tires flatten out and chill close to 0* at WOT?

Good job!

What are your spring rates?

I think the next step is to get that thing into a wind tunnel and possibly a bumper that is made for the purpose? lol

if traction has been your biggest issue in the past, why so much camber?
do you have a rough idea what camber is actually at in lower gears during a run?

Very cool seeing you take the next step in the build! Was there a race after the R8?

The way the tires need to fit in the fenders.

Truthfully the car was hooking 900whp in 4th gear with these tires.. I think it hooks pretty damn good.

Plus the car is extremely stable at 190-200mph and i dont want to change that lol

Do you have any aero parts under the car besides the ones in the front and rear end to aid with stability (i.e. flat bottom panel)? Just curious to see how you keep this car stable at such high speeds. Keep up the good work and hope to see you killing more supercars on the track!

If you don't mind me asking, what were you using for an ignition system when you were still running the s300?

I have a 2.0L GSR Dart block I just got back from being modified and built for up to 1800hp. The car currently has s300 v3, and planning to run around 800hp for a year or two with the stock transmission with LSD (I forget which brand/type at the moment). Wondering if we should run the hondata cpr kit, or keep the cap and wires and run a CD system from Mallory or other.

so did you have to cut the chunk out of the tranny to shim it? if so did you just make a cover plate so you can acces that area again?

That case with a hole in it is just used for setting up the trans. After shimming the normal case goes back on.

I believe he uses the case with the window to make sure everything is working correctly before he installs the set into his gear case he will be using.

Correct, the window case is for checking gear engagement with dog boxes.

Hopefully the trans holds up, straight cut gears with a large tooth module usually don't like not having a cuff. Are you still running the OEM snap ring bearing?
