HAS ANYONE BOUGHT & INSTALLED SKUNK2 ALPHA HEADERS FOR THE D SERIES MOTOR?
I need to buy a set of Headers within the month because the ones I have will not fit my '91 CRX Si with the stock D16a6. I bought the 1 piece ceramic DC Sport headers & it turns out they only fit '92-'95 D series Civic & Del Sols. I have a lot of Skunk2 parts on my CRX & like them. There Alpha series 1 piece stainless steel headers look sweet & I want a 1 piece header (I just think they look better) & stainless steel is better than ceramic since ceramic has problems with cracking. So if anyone has bought & installed the Alpha series headers on there '88-'91 CRX with the stock D series motor in it could you please tell me if they're direct fit & how the installation went. I really don't want to drop $400 on them & have them not fit right or need to do modifications like replace the front subframe with a innovative or avid front traction bar just to get them to fit since that would be another $250-$300 I don't need to spend. Plus it would REALLY suck to have everything torn apart on my mechanics lift & have them not fit. I'm putting the headers on the same time I'm putting my new Skunk2 full size Radiator in, replacing all my hoses with new Mishimoto hoses & new fans.
According to the skunk2 site: product fits 1988 - 1991 Honda CRX (DX, HF, Si)

I'm assuming the DC require notching the front crossmember, which is not uncommon on accords, preludes and ef civics.
I can't say about fitment with the cooling system stuff, but i run the skunk2 header on a 12:1 cammed d16a6 with stock cooling and AC. It has better clearance than the 2 piece dc knockoff header i used to run. Pretty sure i had to drop the crossmember to install it.
I am running it because i have a built engine, i would not have bought it if i was running stock engine.

Thank you for replying to my post. Unfortunatly I live in PA. As for my motor I have the Skunk2 Intake manifold & 70mm throttle body...im buying parts little by little an i have another stock a6 with 130K original miles on my engine stand thats going to eventually be put in my CRX. My first question is how hard is the cross member to take off? I've only ever takin 1 off & it was from a '90 Hf I bought from a guy from Southern CA who got in a accident while visiting family here in PA & the cross member was litterally the last part I removed from the stripped frame. I remember it was easy to take off but so was everything on that CRX since there was no rust & no motor or anything in my way to get the cross member off. I currently have all my A/C parts still in my CRX even tho it doesnt work but the Skunk2 full Radiator is OEM sized. So it seems like the only thing in my way will be that damn cross member.
The 1 piece 4-2-1 DC header for 92+ D series works fine on a d16a6. No notching. I used it for years. Good HP gain.
The o2 sensor location is fine. Just drap it over the tranny, works fine with parts store Bosch.

Tyson,
So you used the DC Sport 1 piece ceramic headers for '92-'95 Civics & they fit fine with no problems in your D16a6 CRX Si? I know ill have to get a O2 extension since the holes on the back of the header & not up front like the oem manifold . But that's no big deal. Other than that they fit right in with no modifications?

Did you buy them brand new? I unfortunatly bought them used from my friend so I don't have the header gasket, the gasket that attaches to the cat not sure if its a donut gasket & Ill have to buy a O2 sensor & extension wire. I was just curious because I had another guy tell me they hit the front cross member in the CRX. But if you did it I don't see why I can't get them in. By the way do you have any pics of them in?
