What part of the alternator/regulator is bad?
My voltage regulator is bad, but rather than replacing the whole thing, I've read that I can replace part of it. Here's the question, how do I determine what is bad?
Thanks!
Thanks!
First, how did you determine the voltage regulator is bad ?
Normally, getting a Denso from rockauto is all you need to do. Denso is the official company that makes our alternators.

I had it tested at a few autoI'm not places; both told me the alternator failed, but one specified: the voltage regulator. However, I am open to further testing, if there's more I can do at home.
I have a volt meter.
I'm not familiar with rockauto. I'll look into it.
Normally you will know if the alternator is bad because the charging light will come on.
To test, you start up from a completely cold start. The engine should be idling at 1500 or so. Make sure all accessories are completely off. Test for voltage. Should be atleast 14.00 volts. If not the alternator is bad. Next put the headlights on. Test for voltage. Should still be atleast 14.00 volts. If not it's bad.
