Gloss on matte carbon fiber
Yeah I want to order a carbon fiber hood for my 8th gen coupe. It's going to run me about 400 but it comes matte. The gloss is a lot more expensive. Could I do the gloss myself and save money?
Ok in another forum I had going a guy said that it's not a clear coat. It's like a gel because it's carbon fiber? Any info on that?
Ok in another forum I had a guy said its a gel. Not. A clear coat. He said it's different because carbon fiber? Any past experiences or friends who have done this?
this was the reply: "its not clear coat paint, it's a special gel specifically for carbon fiber/resin. clear coat paint will peel off and make the hood turn yellow"

The guy that said tht is correct, the hood does come with clear resin, but that is to lock the fibers together.
I would like to know why he thinks it will yellow.
Any cheap clear coat will yellow, some clear coats are even yellowish and not true clear, so they come out looking yellow.
Th clear coat yOu apply wont peel unless you dont sand the hood down.
Scuff it up and spray some good quality clear you will be fine.

The only option is to get a clear coat on. A good quality coat should not flake or yellow.
