Hey guys this is my first post i have searched but to no avail.

I just bought a 99 ex with a h23a/type r tranny. I noticed yesterday that second and third gear were whining as if they were straight cut gears or as if i were supercharged. I then began to notice that when i'm in neutral and shift into first that the transmission sometimes grinds.

Today when i was driving it felt as if the car was in between neutral and first gear while i was in neutral. It is making a noise now while in neutral and its now grinding going into third gear. It also generally is just more difficult to shift.

I thought maybe i was low in tranny fluid due to a potential axle seal leak so I put in one quart of Mtf but it didn't really help.

What do you guys think it could be, i have a lift that i can use to work on the car but the closest thing i've done to transmission rebuilding is transfer case's.

 

The transmission will need to be inspected. Sounds like it will need quite a bit of work.
