I'm having problems with my ej1 , recently swapped a lower mileage z6 in and was running fine , besides some minors things such as, would not go past 3500 till the engine was warmed up then it drove fine. The car is currently hoodless and it had been raining earlier but I did cover my distributor and battery. I was getting on it and the rpms went crazy , check engine light blinked fast like 10 times couldnt even read how many time it blinked. the car wouldn't accelerate hardly at all then it stalled. Waited a couple minutes started it back up and drove home with it bogging out since I was only down the street. Park it at home and today I'm checking it out, car didn't want to start. Was cranking didn't wanna start, kept trying finally it started. I herd a weird noise coming from my intake air box so I decided to remove it. Now it starts right up. Weird. Rpms still go crazy when driving and then it stalls, while at idle its good for about a min or two then just sounds like it wants to die then it stalls. I have no idea what it could be , injectors maybe? Any ideas or info is appreciated. Thanks guys!!
Check your ground wires. The OBD1 CEL never blinks in normal operation, while driving it is either off or it comes on and stays on until the key is turned off. Blinking might result from a basic disruption of power or ground to the ECU.
Or the service connector is shorted, causing the CEL to blink codes.

I can't get it to do the blinking while trying to record, its weird I took it for a spin right now and all is good!?! I seaformed it and cleaned my throttle body cause it was dirty and nothing has changed, it starting now and running idk why it did this yesterday.... Rain?? Cause I have no hood on? Also when I did see the check engine light clinking there was all a ticking sound coming somewhere by the driver door or dash, just kept ticking while key was in. Only thing is now that the intake is off its blowing smoke out it and also see a Lil bit of smoke coming from my timing belt water pump area.

Drive the car until the CEL turns on. Pull over and leave engine running. Jump service connector to pull the code.

I drove it around for about 15 minutes pretty hard to, seems to have full power and everything now. Idk why all of a sudden. And I hope its not one of those things where its fine now then I'm driving to work and it stalls and doesn't start lol. I did notice when I get on it really high rpms and then slow down and come to a stop it does stall but starts right back up.

I would still check the lug with the little ground wires on the thermostat housing; it is real easy to have those forgotten or loose after swapping engine.
