1997 Integra RS Brake Problem Light Stays On
Hello
I'm having an issue with my brake lights. I picked up a 97 Integra RS recently with 105000 miles garage kept.
The the car is clean as heck no issues with anything else. So I started to drive it right away with no problems.
The other day some guy flag me down and said I have no brake lights. I pulled over at the nearest Autozone and
bought all the rear bulbs to replace them and nothing. Next I replaced the Brake light Switch and still nothing.
I looked around and read many threads on this and saw something about the horn not working related issue.
So sure enough i went to check and no horn and i checked the fuse and it was pulled out no fuse I guess the
previous owner did this, I replaced the fuse but now the lights are stuck on as if i was hitting the brakes.
Any ideas on what to check next?
Any help is appreciated as I'm stuck in a rut and have no cash to have it looked at for the moment.
Many Thanks

I just wanted to add some more info .
All my lights work properly Turn signals/ Parking lights / Headlights / Reverse Lights
The issue is all in the brakes.
I know the car was in an accident not too long ago hit by the driver front fender.
Also an alarm was recently installed.
I disconnected the plug from the brake switch and the lights turned off.......As soon as i reconnect they light back up.

Yes I do......the button has to be released completely when the brakes are pressed down and when the pedal is released it has to be pressing it down.
I took off the switch and i was pressing it manually with my finger and it was not responding.
Both the original and the new one i got from autozone

Do you mean to say that your multimeter shows continuity between the terminals of the disconnected switch whether it's pressed or not?
If you don't have a multimeter, get one. You need one. It's about $20 at any auto parts place.

No I meant it wasnt responding as I manually pushed the button with my finger.....it was removed from the thread but it was connected to the plug.
Cool I'm gonna just buy an OEM brake switch this weekend ....I dont trust the autozone one.
It was 12.99 so no big loss!
Side note: My brake reservoir was pretty low my dad suggested I add some brake fluid
so I did and the lights turned off after a few pumps at the pedal. This morning they were lit up again but
as soon as I pumped the pedal once they turned off again.
I noticed my Proportioning valve has fluid all over it.....it might be leaking!
Do you think this might cause the light to be on?

I don't know about that causing the light to be on, but there are little plastic clips that get brittle and break and if they do it can cause the brake lights to stay on.. let me see if i can find a pic.
I had a similar issue, turned out the bulb was actually the cause of it. One of my rear bulbs was stuck on. Bought better dual filament bulbs and replaced it. Problem was solved for me. Sounds weird but it worked. You could just have duds but that is your call to make. I'd just return them and try a different pair.
Edit* just read your prop valve post. Fix your prop valve. That could definitely have something to do with it. Report back with results.

Sorry i know Im answering all late.....
I bought a non leaking used proportion valve and replaced my old one.
I bought new front brakes my old ones were wearing down .
I got new Bulbs and a New Brake lamp switch .
I finally flushed the brake fluid and bleed the system good.
after all that its finally working.....I dont know what was the cause exactly but the last two things i did was replace the proportion valve and fluid .
