What relay to use for actuator?
Hi all. Im going to install a trunk actuator on my hatch, I know how to set it up mechanically, but im unsure of what relay to use?
This is the kit im using.
actuators-door-poppers
This is the diy i found, but the guy does not mention what relay is used. If he does, i completely missed it.
Trunk Pop
Thanks.

Ok nice! Thanks I'll probably just run straight power to it then.
What wire is did you splice into?
I was thinking grounding the actuator near the trunk the. Running 1 wire from a switch to the actuator. And the other wire from the switch to a constant 12v fuse in the fuse box.
Yours is aftermarket too yea?

You only need a relay if you're hooking up an actuator to an alarm system. If all you want is the ability to pop your trunk by pressing a button inside your car, you can hook up the actuator to 12v and ground.
But why have an actuated trunk pop when the car comes with a trunk release latch conveniently placed on the driver's floorboard? Or are you trying to have this work with an aftermarket alarm system?

thanks for the reply an info EnjoyTheRide. I am trying to have it work with the alarms control. It would also be nice to have the option of pushing a button and the trunk releasing open or using the control to open it.
I will probably run straight 12v and have a stereo shop install a relay for it so it can work with the alarm control.

For the alarm, most have a trunk release wire that can be connected to a SPDT Automotive 5 pin relay. That relay then sends the signal to the actuator to pop the trunk. If you know where the alarm brain is in your car and have experience with 12v electronics, its not difficult to do yourself.
You can hook it up to 12 v straight to a switch to connect to the actuator.

Do they usually come with a picture of what pin is what?
From the DIY link i posted, 2 pins from the relay go to 12v(15amp fuse inline), 1 pin goes to the actuator, and 1 wire to the aux.
Is this correct?
So I just need to figure out what wire on the alarm brain is the aux wire.
According to the DIY it will be a red/white wire.
Just found this relay. It will work for the actuator right?
Looks like the same one used in the diy and has the same oin numbers.

That's the type of relay to use. You can find them at your local auto parts store as well. The underside of the relay usually has the pins marked. If not, just follow the link and it should be pretty obvious which pin goes where.
