Default B16a sir1 reliability?? and my swap decisions..(long)

Hey guys, I was going to get my LS swap done today, but I keep getting this feeling that I am not going to be happy with it, adn that I should spend a little extra and get a B16. I would get the Sir1, put a new timing belt, water pump, oil pump, and get a valve adjustment. I drive my car about 20-25k miles a year, so realibility is the number one priority. Generally how many of the Sir1's are in good shape when they are installed. The thing that scares me is how old the motors are, and what has happend to them while they have been sitting around. After all the probs that I have been having with my d16Y8 motor (in a 91 CRX Si), loosing compression and basiclly blowing up, I am not too excited about the possibility of putting a more expensive dud motor in my car . Right now I have a rebuilt Crx Si trans in my car and I know that I have to get rid of that for the B16, so now I could have potential tranny probs too. I am just curious to see how many people had trouble with their B16 from the begining? Thanks for the help, I have till friday to make up my mind. This is going to be the last thing that i do to this car, its in beautiful rust free condition, good paint, and everything, but I cant keep sinking this kind of cash into my car. Thanks for the help again.

I drove my b16 for over a year and 30000 miles, making it a point to keep the rpms at or above 7500 (even on the highway). I have over 110 timeslips from the 1/4 mile track, and I delivered pizza with it. I have never had any problems with the engine, until the guy in the Accord didn't yield the right of way....

I got it from....****, I forgot their name. They're well known, based in California, starts with a W....

think about it...Honda put it in alot of cars from 89 in japan.. all the way to 00 in the US. I dont know why they would do such a thing if it wasnt reliable.

I only have about 700 miles on a 1st gen b16, and it seems to run better and better each day. I get about 30 mph in a crx

I did the timing belt, water pump, and small stuff like the plugs. I didn't do the oil pump.

I did take very good care of the engine, mobil 1 every 3000 miles, Dexcool coolant, Honda oil filter, adjustted valves regularly, plugs regularly, made sure it was 100% warmed up before revving it high....

Other than that, like I said, I redlined it every chance I got. No "it will last if you don't redline stop light to stop light" bullshit. If I had to, I would straight up exceed the speed limit a little extra just so that I could redline it in 2nd, then slow back down to my normal speed.

I didn't believe it was possible for an engine like that to exist, but I do now. If Honda says it's good, it's good.

I got the engine from K Watanabe, I believe. They screwed me on the ecu (auto), but the motor was obviously good.

Mine's been pretty realiable. What's failed on me? Ummm... three sets of reman'd axles, I've replaced the water pump, thermostat (twice - stupid cheap-*** department store brands aren't worth the money "savings" ), timing belt (twice), water pump (twice - again, cheap-*** rebuilds suck), the crank seals, and the clutch (it was stock & I fried it). Also pretty much all the seals & gaskets from the head up (including the head gasket) have been replaced w/ Honda OEM parts, including all the seals & gaskets on the intake manifold.

The only problems I have are idle problems. The engine is strong and gets 200+ compression across the board last time I checked. I've had it since '00.
