to much engine oil
I bought a 99 accord last week and the engine has about a qt. to much oil in it. it has a non vtec 2.3 engine. I am going to have to replace the engine as it has a rod knock so I am not to worried about the excess oil. Just wondering what to much engine oil will cause? Thanks
If you drive civilized the oil may be high enough that the crankshaft throws are smacking into the oil, this would cause aeration of the oil which would make it as useless as using no-low oil. This could also kick up enough oil mist to start filling your PCV system and causing excessive ingestion of oil/oil mist into the combustion chambers leading to carbon fouling, blue smoke, and all sorts of fun.
If the oil filter on the current is engine is worth a ****, it will have some oil in it and you can try removing the filter and either draining it or replacing it with a new filter to aid in removing the excess oil.
Or;
Use a vacuum pump(mighty vac etc) and a long enough hose to slowly siphon ~ quart of oil out through the dipstick tube.
Or;
Drive like a madman, keeping the revs beyond 4Krpm so the oil is constantly pumped up into the head and you can scream 'WITNESS' while hanging off the hood of your Accord in wreckless bliss.

The lady I purchased the car from from bought it new from honda in 1999' She told me her son drove it low on oil and it needed an engine. The oil that is in it is by no means new,it looks as if it has a couple thousand miles on it. It is about 1-1/2" above the full line. It does not have water in it either,all dirty oil. It does have the rod knock and will run and move as long as the pedal is feathered. I am wondering if this could be because of what you mentioned that oil can enter the pcv system. Not really sure I want to play with this engine though because it does have a knock.

It's actually even cheaper since that's the price I pay for Penzoil Platinum synthetic...
If the engine is toast anyway, why not drain the oil like MM said, but instead of buying more oil, just fill the engine up with the existing oil less the amount over. Excess oil will get into the PCV and cause it to run like ****. Our cars are pretty sensitive to PCV functionality.
Pull the plugs, if they are oil fouled then you know the engine is running like **** because of oil ingestion, and not just rod knock.
