I have 35% all the way around due to state laws, so would a 5% windshield strip look odd? thanks for advice

 

IMO yes, just because it would be soo much darker. You most likely already have a factory "tint" (colored glass) strip down to the as-1 line. If doing anything, I'd go with 35% there too unless you really need 5% to keep the sun out.
