Did you re-do a valve lash adjustment with the new cams? Did you do a compression test? Did you re-tune for the turbo and cam change?

The valves don't have a TDC. The cams do. Considering that he replaced the cams, which control the valves, and considering the motor is capable of running...yeah, safe bet he didn't do some dumb **** like that. If 4 is at TDC, then 1 is also at TDC.

he never did say if he check the valve lash or reset the valve lash. maybe the valve springs are to weak to control to extra lift from the itr cams? are you using stock valve spring ?

Like suggested, you should do a compression test next and compare it to your first assembly.

What we did is zip tied the camgears from the timing belt to make sure it will be back on its same exact tooth

Also, since your distributor had to come off to replace the cams, did you reset your ignition timing? It sounds like you took a lot of liberties and shortcuts that you really shouldn't have.

Agreed. And it could be the difference of him toning down the timing to a more conservative timing if he had a really aggressive advanced timing before. This is assuming changes were actually made to tune.
