What year engine will work in a 1999 accord
I am getting a 99 accord tomorrow that the PO says needs a engine. It has a 2.3 4 cylinder. What year engines will be a quick swap without having to change the computer? The car runs and drives right now but the lady said her son drove the car with hardly any oil in it. Thanks
You will need to find out which variant you have, F23A1, F23A4 or F23A5.
Look under the water outlet facing the radiator side for the cast in pad with the above numbers on it.
A1 = 150HP
A4 = ULEV ~148HP
A5 = 135HP is non VTEC
I *think* you can interchange A1 and A4 but not sure.
Use the VIN from the vehicle to identify the engine. There are a lot of VIN decoders around. I think there is a link to one on this site. A famous mechanic guy who seems to do a lot of it (Scotty Kilmer - you can see his videos on YouTube) recommends buying an engine from Japan that are really low mileage. I think it is known as JDM. Apparently the Japanese government jacks up the taxes on older cars so much that owners just sell them for junk and then US companies import the engines which are really low mileage, relatively speaking.
