Default Accord engine swap question...

I was considering buying an accord engine off of ebay so that I can spend time and build an F-series from the block up for my boost project. I found an accord engine from a 2002 accord (4 cylinder 2.3l F23A1 engine with 22k miles) and I currently have a 2001 accord ex (4 cylinder 2.3 l F23A4 engine 90k miles).

I did some reading and found that the F23A4 engine was mainly for california... my only guess would be that this is due to CA strict smog laws. Oh yah, I live in Ca btw I have a few questions:

1) Since I am building from the block up and plan to take a while, should I swap in the newly bought and supposedly less used F23A1 engine or skip the swap and work on the Newly bought engine? Im trying to decide which block to work on.. the one with 90k miles or the one with 22k miles... if you think it wouldnt matter let me know

2) If I swap I would assume it would be a straight plug/play deal but I was wondering if I would have any ECU problems from changing from a F23A4 to F23A1? smog issues etc...

3) Besides a prelude engine (H22) would any other engines fit in my 6th gen accord (plug and play or MINIMAL modification like switching to a different engine mount)? I saw a K24A4 dohc ivtec engine for sale... I think it was from a 2003 accord. Would this engine fit? Most likely I would need a new ecu for the dohc ivtec?

Thanks again!

a1 and a4 are the same except for the ECU and a few sensors. I think it's only that the a4 uses A/F sensors instead of O2 sensors, but I'm not 100% if there are other sensors that are different. they are however 100% mechanically identical.

a5 has the same bottom end except for the pistons. the head on the a5 is the same casting as the a1 and a4, but it of course doesn't have the VTEC valvetrain or cam.
