Default JE or SRP Pistons in my turbo setup....

Im finally coming to an end with all of my turbo setup and the pistons are the last part of the turbo that im debating on.

Now my mechanic told me that i could go SRP 9:1 instead of JE's and he said i should be fine and would save quite a bit of money.

What are the real differences? and are the SRP's good enough?

I was told that the only difference was the grade of the piston and that the SRP's were silicone based.

Help me out guys.

Thanks
gen2teg

which engine do you have in your car
Is it an LS?
I would recommend JE pistons

if they will fit I have a set of JE 9:1 B18C pistons brand new never used for $400

Yes it's an LS.

Why do you recommend JE?

thanks

IMO

JE's are upgraded and ligtened SRP's.

Get JE if you want the best.

Get SRP if you want to save some coin.

Both are very high quality and will perform great in your application.

Personnally, since you are spending the money, I would go with JE.

SRP Pistons for boosted applications contain high silicon content
JE Pistons for boosted applications contain low silicon content

Get the JE's! Pistons with high silicon content tend to melt at high boost pressures.

Ive heard that if you tune and run reasonable level boost you should be fine?

I plan to tune it with Hondata stage 2b and un 9:1 compression.

I think i should be fine.

thanks again

I was going to but decided to wait until next year, i only have enough cash to put it together and run it at say 11psi tops.

just a tidbit of information, JE and SRP are both manufactured by the same company. The SRP piston is manufactured as a "shelf only" part. The forgings are designed to reduce the amount of time required to make them into a finished part. Since time is money, you win by paying less money for a quality part. Just a little bit of 411 for those who didnt know.

Wow...good info...I need to make a decision soon too....arg...I think I'll go JE's though would you guys go Crower or Eagle with JE's? I'm thinking 9:1 compression this is on a B16A2 running at 8psi but I'll probably want to run 11-12 psi daily. Thanks.

That's what ive heard as well.

So are you saying that with the SRP's i should be fine and not have to worry?

Remember my car is only probably going to put out 300-330whp potentially.

thanks

Dude there are some differences in the pistons other than one is "selfed" and the forgings. . .go JE.
SRP is an accountants decision. . .JE is an engineers decision. . .
