timing belt drive pulley orientation

Default timing belt drive pulley orientation

Hi

I'm got confuse to install back JDM B16A timing belt drive pulley after complete change front crank seal. Both side have marking to line up with oil pump. Checked manual no info found. Need advice is the lock side facing toward engine block or facing outside. Thanks.





the lock facing block or facing main crank pulley.

that the problem. i already forgot the orientation after cleaning the drive pulley.

Fine, you see the line on the crank. it needs to face outward so that you can line up the crank and cams when the timing belt is on. Sometimes the crank keyway is usually long so it needs to slide into that crank gear as well so yes the keyway on that gear needs to face inward. Next time be organize when doing things like this.

I'm pretty sure that line is on both sides of the crank gear.

If you look at your crank snout, you will notice the key way groove is not level.

If you try and put the gear on as you have it in the picture (built in key towards the back of the gear), I'm pretty sure it will bottom out in the crank snout groove before going all the way on.

Notice the curve in the groove and the curve on the built in key way... The curves needs to match.

The slot for the woodruff key usually tapers away at the inner end, that cog should be installed with the key facing outwards. (towards the installer)
