AC not working. Here's what's going on & what I've done. (keep in mind idk much about AC systems)
97 civic ex
*AC light appears when button pressed.
*no AC fan or compressor engagement when pressed.
*Jumped Compressor relay & clutch engaged but not fan.(not sure if that's normal)
*Jumped pressure switch, fan kicked on but not comp. clutch(don't know if that's normal)
*Hooked up ac pro recharge kit and shows 20psi with AC off and 0psi with jumped clutch.
I read that when you press the AC button the condenser fan is suppose to kick on... Which mine doesn't..
Idk what else to do? Or what's the next step..
*I didn't add freon* since I read the fan is suppose to come on when AC button is pressed.

 

You have a leak that is causing your system to not run, you pressure switch is either clogged and is not detecting refrigderant, you're low on refridgerant.

Consult FSM to see where you should be on refriderant.

 

20 psi with A/C off indicates the A/C system is basically empty of refrigerant.

Jumping the A/C pressure switch should not trigger the fan to run. Did you instead ground a wire in the switch connector?

Did you test fuses 56 and 17?

 

i added UV freon jumping the comp clutch and now with the AC off the psi is in the red with the AC on the psi is 25. but now my AC light on the heater controls wont come on. i will check fuses and report back.

 

ohhh ok.. I added more and now the above post^^ is happening.

and you are correct, i did not check the actual switch i bridged the connector pins together and the AC fans activated.

Fuse number 17 is good so is 56.
H0w do i check the relays for the fan and compressor A B C ???

 

Fan or Fans? The condenser fan is on the driver's side and the radiator fan is on the passenger side.

Post a picture of the pressure switch connector you jumped.

Jumping the connector should NOT activate a fan.

my apology i only meant the condenser fan. i will try to be more thorough in my descriptions.
i will get a picture up asap. it is behind the drivers headlight somewhat underneath the power steering fluid tank.

 

well i jumped the connector again and nothing happened.. i wonder what it was that made the fan turn that i confused with the pressure switch =/

 

Voltage test fuses 17 and 56. See link I posted.

 

Right, I just didn't make it sound technical. Thats all.

 

the connector between the power steering tank and washer fluid tank is the pressure switch correct?
I will test those fuses right now.
on a side note. i turned the car on activated AC button (it lit up) grounded each of the terminals on the CONNECTOR(not the switch itself) separately and one turned on the fan. Grounding the other terminal engaged the clutch. idk what that means just throwing it out there..

 

No need to test the fuses. This^ result tells you that the fuses and relays are good.

Next test:

Plug pressure switch back in.

Unplug A/C thermostat.

With key in ON(II), ground the Blu/Wht wire pin in the thermostat connector.

Does fan run and clutch engage?

 

AC thermostat is behind glovebox correct? has 3 wires.. sits ontop of a black air duct looking assembly thingamajigger?

 

Yes. Verify correct connector identification by the three wire colors.

Ground the Blu/Wht wire pin.

 

SWEET!! i looked and that connector was unplugged! grounded the blue/white wire and fan/clutch engaged! connected it back into the AC thermostat, started car, and BAM! AC comp and fan are spinning! =]
