Default Speedo stuck at 20mph ALWAYS, even when car is off

My 95 accord, I bought it a few weeks ago from some tweaker looking guy, after I paid him $500, he told me he bought it for $20 of meth.

Surprisingly even with 208k miles, it runs great!

The speedometer has never worked since I have owned it. it is stuck 100% of the time at 20mph. It never returns to zero, even with the car off. The trip meter works just fine. The needle to the speedometer has never even budged, not jumped, nothing. Stuck.

Is this like all the posts I read just saying to replace the entire cluster or whatever? Most of those posts are similar, but nothing that fit exactly.

Thanks in advance

Take the cluster apart and move the needle and see if it goes back. If that dnt work, swap in another cluster and see whats what.. Maybe a new speed sensor

Also, the cruise control works just fine, I don't know if that helps at all.

If you do take the cluster out, DO NOT TOUCH THE SCREWS TO THE FUEL GAUGE!
There is a teeny-tiny thread of wire that will snap and your gauge will then be stuck on F, as in FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUck.

This is a common problem. I went through 2 replacement clusters trying to fix mine. Trust me, its not worth the effort to try and fix the cluster itself. I took it apart probably 4 times trying to swap parts so I could retain my original mileage cluster, sometimes it would work for a week, some times 5 minutes. In the end the best way to fix this is to swap in a new cluster entirely.

My issue was just a failed circuit board. I popped mine off and resoldered every single solder joint I could, but that only lasted a week. I swapped in a used speedo cluster circuit board and it worked perfect ever since. The odomter wasn't touched so my mileage has not changed.

I made the small problem worse I think.

So pulled out the instrument cluster, the soldering and circuit board looked in good shape. So I put it back together until I can go pick up a used one somewhere. When I went to drive that evening, a couple hours later, the SRS light came on, and stayed on. The today, a few days later, the tachometer stopped working. Is this coincidental bad luck, or did I mess something up?

Ive worked around cars all my life growing up, working at auto repair shops, body shops, etc. I had just never actually worked on them. I'm a 29 year old single mom of a 2 year old though, and have the knowledge about cars, more so than the money to take it to a shop. so I figured using the awesome write ups I found on this site, that I could follow the simple directions and pictures that go along with it. Im guessing I over estimated my abilities??

Check the pins in the connectors, the connector may have snapped in but those pins can loosen up or be pushed back out of the connector causing an open in the circuit which can cause a false warning lamp illumination.

So I have to take the entire thing back apart? Ugh!
