Default Advice on Skunk2 Stage-I.......

I'm going to start my small little build up, and i wanted to see what you guys thought. (Car is a 99 SI, basic I/H/E)
Skunk2 Stage-I cams, STR Gears, a VAFC and go get tuned. I will eventually get a chipped OBD-I ECU, but for now, this is what i plan on getting.

Any advice, if i should get skunk2 springs as well, yay/nay, and if i should get skunk2 TI retainers. I'm just wondering if the springs are too stiff, and if retainers would be useless and be nothing more than a hassle to replace (a year or so from now) thanks,
-aaron

I have these installed in my B16, and had the springs and retainers installed as well. Skunk2 recommends is, though it is not required.

They don't seem too stiff. I would recommend getting them if you have the money. They will especially save your *** when you rev high.

cool......

What about getting springs but using stock retainers? Apparently they need replacement annually.....?

You don't need springs and retainers to run the stage 1's
But if you have the money get them!

I had the stage 1's with skunk2 springs and retainers

If you get the springs, get the retainers as well. You will need the strength to hold the new springs. But as I said before: If you have the money to spend, get them... if you don't have the money you don't need them. Just don't go revving the engine to 9k all the time.

Not quite sure about b16's and the Skunk2 Stage 1's, but it works very nice with the b18c's.

I'm using my stock valvetrain and I have no problems whatsoever. I can't rev passed 8300rpm anyways since there is a limiter, so no need....

But once I move my Redline up to 9500rpm, I will definately get the Skunk2 Valvetrain.

I have a complete skunk2 valvetrain with all the goodies ( skunk2 stage 1 cams, skunk2 cam gears, skunk2 titanium retainers, and skunk2 high compression valves). If you have the money, I HIGHLY recommend them. Also, if you order direct through skunk2, talk with Andrew; he's hella helpful and knowledgable.
