Hello Honda tech I have a 2001 civic ex I have a issue with my second gear it tends to grind when I go to put it in second and when it does catches 2nd gear when u release the clutch it kicks out of gear and grinds. I'm not sure what the issue is. I was told if u replace the tranny on these civic u have to get the same model transmission my car is a ex so would I have to get a ex Manuel transmission I herd it's the same for automatic if so why ??????????????

You have a worn 2nd gear and slider sleeve. The Manual EX or LX 01-05 Civic trans will fit. The LX has a longer gear ratio and will have lower RPMs on the highway. The automatic transmissions should only be replaced with the same exact model since the PCM uses the speed sensor signals from 3rd gear to determine shift points and using the wrong model on some years will cause the check engine light to go on. This is not an issue for the manual transmissions.
