Default Help!! Running extremely rich black smoke

Hi I have a 02 RSX type-S with k20A2 and cars running extremely rich I wasted full tank and a 1/2 to go no more than 150 miles.. I changed the spark plugs. O2 sensors and I'ma change the fuel pump today . I wanted to know what else can it be if it's none of the above.. The car has a CAI with 2 1/2 exhaust . The catalytic converter was rewelded with O2 sensors at the ends, and I was wondering if that can be an issue of the secondary O2 is suppose to be in the middle and not at the end of the catalytic converter because it looks to have the whole for it.

If your o2 sensor is not in the correct position it could certainly trick your ecm into thinking your motor isn't burning enough fuel and try and dump more to get combustion temps up, this is just a guess, I'm a mechanic student and we talk about these issues pretty often. Start where things are modified, plug that hole and relocate the o2 sensor to a factory position. Even if it doesn't solve your immediate issue, I'm pretty sure it will make a positive difference.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^This is correct and is also the MOST likely cause of your rich running issues.....

I would check that your second o2 sensor is hooked up properly. In my honda, my second sensor came unplugged and mine also began running very rich, but once plugged in and after resetting my computer (disconnecting ground on battery for about 2 or 3 mins) it ran properly again and went back to 30mpg

If that's a hole it will affect your o2 readings..

thanks guys but I've been going threw alott of diognosis and I believe it had to do with my MAP sensor. I was checking voltage on it and was getting a 3.58V at the signal wire. With the ignition on and not the car and even at idle. It was a constant 3.5V so i started with checking the wire all the way to the ECU. and it seemed perfectly fine. So I got a new ECU and no change. So later i jus took of the throttle body and little did I know. It had the wrong throttle body. It had a k20z1 throttle body so the hole were the MAP sensor gets its reading is basically covered by the k20a1 manifold. So I jus got a new throttle body today and will let u guys know if it changes. If not my last resort is gonna be getting a complete stock exhauste.
