Default Spun Bearing on B16a2.....(oversized bearings)

Hello H-T,

I just had a few questions regarding my rebuild of this b16a2 I've got. The motor spun a rod bearing and I was wondering should I turn just that one journal on the crank that
spun and only use an oversized bearing on just that one rod journal and run standard size bearings on the rest ? Or would it be a better idea to turn/polish all the journals including mains and just install oversized bearing for all ? Also, since the idiot that owned the engine before me used to run straight water, it left corrosion and ate up away around all the cylinder liners. Any help would really be appreciated.

This is the actual journal that the rod spun on.

you're most likely going to need to buy a new crankshaft. Honda cranks have a nitride layer and when you spin a bearing it almost always eats the layer off, or makes it so thin that turning it ends up removing the layer. You might be better off just finding a new short block since you're going to have to do a 100% rebuild on that engine.

Thx M4 ! I was trying to lean way from that thought of having to source another crank. guess I'll just have to think about a secondary option like going K or H series for that matter ?

That block corrosion is beyond anything I've ever seen. I would question whether this block is even capable of properly sealing against the head. I hope you got this motor for free.

Agreed. I feel like MAYBE that block would be a candidate for sleeving. I would not run it myself with that much material eroded away.

Thanks a lot guys. I might just have to look into another motor.

I also agree, that corrosion is insane. I would never use that block in my own car if I saw that. and also like mentioned, honda cranks hate being reground for oversize bearings. almost every honda crank I see turned ends up chewing through bearings in a matter of weeks. a new shortblock should be your priority.

considering your engine is fairly rare, you might also consider doing an LS-Vtec. LS shortblocks are pretty cheap

You would need to grind all 4 rod journals. Like others stated you cant just grind, it needs to be heat treated and so on. By the time you fix one properly it will cost more then finding another stock crank to start off with which is better because you can stick with oem or aftermarket bearings. I agree, those sleeves look horrible, sleeve it or find another stock block that has a good crank. Good luck!
