Full Vinyl Wraps
It's doable though it takes a lot of patience and practice to look good. Much better if your friend has experience doing it because if both of you don't know what you are doing, you might just wasting money in material.
I'm curious how good the paint and body work needs to be below a wrap. Any ideas?
I know that dents will need to be repaired, but does the paint simply need to be sanded and primed smooth?

I do vinyl wraps in Durban, South Africa...
It is vital for the bodys surface to be cleaned throughly using an automotive degreaser to remove oils, polishes and sillicone purely for the vinyl to adhere to the body effectively. If this is not done, the vinyl will have trouble holding in certain areas and will lead to the vinyl lifting and bubbling which looks awful.
I usually wash down the vehicle and clean the surface with a clay bar first, then a good wipe down.
