Default transmission gearing for 450whp turbo 2450lb car

i have a ls trans currently i also have a b16 1-4th gears. i plan to run 23 or 24.5 slicks and only want to rev to 8k max so with that being said what way would you arrange the gears to be the best set up. the car is not on boost by gear so was thinking ls 1-2 b16 3-4 keeping the 4.26 final drive and running the 24.5X9X13 m/t et sport compacts any input would be greatly appreciated.

GSR transmission with 24:5 slicks. B16 are to short and ls gearing is terrible. If you don't want to buy a trans I would use the b16 with ls final for a little more mph

arent the splines from countershaft and final drive cut differently on the ls and b16?

like ones slanted and the others straight cut

Use the ls countershaft and ring gear aka the final drive with all the b16 gears etc. Honda doesn't have straight cut gears in a b series other than reverse

Straight cuts are very noisy. Not conducive to a consumer vehicle. I personally love the sound.

very similar power and weight to my car. you want a gsr 1-4 with a 4.4fd and 24.5" slicks. should put you right through the traps just about 8000 rpm at id say 130mph =/- 2 mph.

mess around with the zeal calculator for exact answers

No the best option is GSR transmission regardless. 23" slicks are good for about 500 ish hp but you may be on the limiter.

well the car will spend most its time running a 11.5 bracket class as im not caging the car just yet. so would you stick with the same gsr trans 23s ? and ls 5th gear for daily driving.

The whole "LS 5th" thing isn't really worth it. At 70, on 23" tires (or 205/50R15), you're only dropping from ~3500 RPM to ~3250 RPM.

To do 1/8 and 1/4 mile well, you can use a GS-R transmission with 4.266 FD.

On a 24.5" slick, you can end the 1/8 at the top of 3rd gear around 100-105mph which I think is typical for a car of that power level. If you need a couple more mph, increase the redline a couple 100rpm to fine tune.

On a 23" slick, you can end the 1/4 at the top of 4th gear around 125mph. If you need more ceiling in 4th, add rpm. I think (personal anecdote) 125mph is plenty for better than an 11.5. Probably closer to an 11.0. Which is just fine because you want to be capable of faster than the index.

if i set it up for 1/8th mile id like to top out 4th. same with 1/4 so would b16 do fine on 23s in the 1/8th or b16 with 4.266fd? and same slicks on gsr or ls trans with 4.4. fd i have the ls already i have b16 1-4th already getting a gsr trans for 100 in a few days so i can build anycombo i would need. also at my power level and weight any ideas of the 1/8th mile it would be typical cabal-be of ?

Nah, you should avoid the extra shift; its lost time off full power and also rebuilding the boost you had in the previous gear.

Play with the calculator to get the confirmations you're looking for. You should see it for yourself. I only suggested that combination to allow you to switch tire size to optimize the top gear for both races without changing gears or swapping transmissions between races.

You should also keep in mind the calculator only considers top speed in each gear. You'll also need to look at your rpm drops to pair the drops with your power band so you can always be in the meat of the power (maybe start with staying on the high cam is an easy place to begin).

11.3-11.5 at 126-128. i think its goes through the traps at like 7900 rpm in 4th. gsr trans 24.5" slick. my 1/8mph is like 100-101. i actually havent been to the track in a while but this is what i did last time out. that was at 475whp and 2540 or whatever lbs, 1.75- 60fts.

you really do need to get on that zeal calc and play around on it. as mentioned when you upshift your likely dont want to drop below around 6000 rpm or something much below where the tq curve flattens out

ya ive played with it some. And when i do a 1/8th mile i would want to do it all out and try to run all 4 gears but mite be droping that idea base off some ruff calcualtions i would only be around a 6 second 1/8th and the people would be going against run 4.5-5s
