Stock ITR Clutch Travel
Hey
So I got my car back with new OEM pp, clutch disc, and bearings. The car is running fine again after spending $781
.
Heres the deal, my clutch is much softer than my previous stock clutch. Also, my old clutch used to engage a little less than half way through its travel. The new clutch engages in like the last 1-2" of travel. I feel like im driving a manual cadillac. So I talked to Acura and said I want to get the clutch pedal adjusted so it engages like it used, much lower to the floor. He said he can do it buts its not good to. Is he just BS'ing me? How could adjusting the pedal so it engages lower to the floor be bad? Any ideas?
Thanks
Aamir

Sorry I dont have a industrial jack at my apartment or the correct tools and even space, and I work a 50 hour week, learning to drop my tranny is the last repair I would learn to do first.
So back to the question, is there anything wrong with adjusting a clutch so that it engages closer to the floor.

yeah my clutch feel sthe same when i got it back with a new flywheel and clutch ....dealer told me its normal ....so i'm delaing with it ..i just put my seat a little farther back
When you replace a worn out original clutch with even the same new one it will be quite a bit smoother and softer engaging. My guess is it has to do with all the heat that the old press plate has had to deal with causing the pedal effort to gradually increase over its lifetime. The increase is so slow that it goes unnoticed until you put in the new fresh unit and it feels so much better trust me I wish it would stay like that for its workable lifetime but. Anyway hope this puts your mind at ease. And treat it good for at least a few hundred good stop and go driving miles so it breaks in good. My oem stocker has 60k miles now of hard abuse including slipping of the clutch and it still chirps third on nice days and with no chatter. But I know its day is coming soon the moral treat it well at the start and it'll hold up better down the road.
Thanks alot for the info man.....Heres the BAD NEWS.....i was putting my lip back on today since I toook it off for the tow to acura. The acura people scratched my bumper horrendously in 5 differnet places. Its almost as if the front was rubbed against a wall. I didnt notice it when i picked up the car because it was raining hard and night. Im going tomorrow. they better pay for a resurface and respray, i took photos before the tow to acura so they can see how it looked before they received it, and it was MINT. BASTARDS ,,,take $800 from me and then cause me $300 of damage.

Dude after my exedy clutch install my clutch pedal is like 4 inches from the floor. Great for quick shifting. Ask anyone that has tested my clutch and see what they say, if freaking LOW. I checked all the clearances and everything checks out. Hey I like it and so does everyone else, I can't see any damage occuring so I figure everything is all good

I just went to Acura, the scratches were hardened grease that no amount of handwork could remove, they had to use an industrial buffer for 15 minutes to get it all off.
I got the clutch adjusted, it now engages about 1/3 sooner in its travel, instead of in its last 1/3. Getting used to it all over again, but its much better. But, making it engage earlier has given rise to about 1.5" of Pedal Freeplay, anyone know how to get rid of the freeplay? If not, im taking it back, should only take 5 minutes to fix.
Thanks

My brother's 94 GSR has this Exedy Clutch, too. And man, you barely have to move your foot off the pedal for the clutch to engage. I would like my Toda Fly/CLutch combo to do that in my ITR. We do have a Helms Manual, but it's a 94 or 95. Can I find out how to shorten the distance it takes to engage? Please let me know.
Thanks

I just got from Acura for the third time.
Final Result: Clutch engages about 2.5-3" off the floor as opposed to its previously engaging in the last 2" of travel. This was achieved by turning a bolt on a rod underneath the dash behind the clutch lever assembly. After doing this, I had 2" of pedal free play which was very annoying. The tech adjusted another bolt underneath the dash to reduce the free play, he said the bolt was maxed out so he could not take out all the free play unless I had a longer bolt. He then pieced together some sort of spacer and successed and removing all the excess free play, I have maybe .2" of free play now, the clutch is tight, low to the ground, and engages much soon than before. Im happy
, acura just thinks im the most **** retentive person in the wolrd though... haha
moral of the story: Your clutches can all be adjusted to your exact liking! I like my clutch so much better now that it is lower to the floor, engages earlier, and has no slop in it at the rest position. I had to really convince the techs to do all this stuff, they said they have never had anyone ask them to do this and they didnt want to do it in the first place and tried to tell me its not a good idea, but in the end they noticed the clutch felt quite a bit different after doing it...customer is always right!
