1996 Honda accord tie rod end clamp
My boyfriend is replacing the inner tie rod end, has the boot off and the clamp is frozen...I mean stuck. 2nd day of battling with this issue. Any suggestions would be welcome. This is not the first place I have tried to find the solution. Thank you so much!.
Sorry "Tim" there is no "special" tool needed to replace the inner tie rod....if you want to debate this we can do it in another thread as I guess you've never done this before on a 5th gen Accord.
OP = Original Poster - if the inner part of the tie rod boot is off the rack. There is a washer that is bent over one of the "flats" on the inner tie rod. Have him use a screw driver to bend that washer back/flat. Then unscrew the inner rod from the rack.
When the new one goes on, have him be sure to "bend" the washer back over those "flats".

He finally got the clip loose, replaced the tie rod , but the boot we got from 2 places, auto zone and oreillys is too small. It is the right part according to the system, but it is Def too small. I guess he is going to have to go up there and look at different parts until he finds one that matches. Thank you for your help. If you have any suggestions why the new boot is too small....
Aftermarket boots have never really worked. I know if sucks but this is one of those parts that only seem to work when you get them from the dealer.
When I did my 95 Accord, I didn't even bother with trying aftermarket, went to the dealer and got them and had no issues. Was able to re-use the small end "key ring wound" clamp to the new boot....for the larger - inner clamp - I used a good old zip tie. The breather tubes were a bit of a pain to hook up but got it. Rocked the car for about two years after that with no issues.
My youngest ended up doing a barrel roll in the car - he climbed out of the moonroof and was ok - about two years later....car was done but he was ok.....still miss that car but after 385K miles and the service it did, we have come to terms
