Hi everyone I'm new to the forums and I really want an Honda/Acura as my next car. Alas, I'm conflicted. I really want this 99 gsr as dd https://gulfport.craigslist.org/cto/5383256194.html I don't have alot of money and I will fix the front body damage last. The owner says all it needs are a starter, battery, and new front bake calipers since they're locked up. Is it worth picking up? And if so what should I be looking for when I go get it? Thanks in advance for any help
Don't pay more than $500 it's one thing if they're in a proper garage, but sitting out back under a tree is just fucked the pics are too **** to tell how much rust there is. Wait a few weeks there's running, driving cars for a bit over a thousand, even in the rust belt that are in "ok" shape. There's a very good chance you'll be putting more in than it's worth when you could have used that for a "running driving car". Even with a battery I may not turn over, even just to hear it run and judging by the ad it's some typical loser selling it. clean 6th Gen civics are a dime a dozen if you want something just to get from a to b.
It's your money, your time all we can do is give "opinions".
Ha! Thanks. I think I just got starry eyed over it being a gsr. Anyways I'm totally just going to get a 4th gen hatch for a beater and 2nd car for when I buy something else. Whats a good price for a slightly modded 4th gen hatch (5speed tranny, mpfi, Maybe exhaust)? I went on Edmunds to get a figure in my head and this is what they say private sell should be
KBB etc can't be relied on for a "modded older vehicle" you have to cross reference with other EF's out there. Find a clean one then find a rusted one, then gauge the difference and see what the middle ground is. From the 1 or 2 I've seen here maybe 800-1000 if there's minimal rust and it drives, check out a 6th gen aka "EK".
just scan CL or what ever local classified is used in your area, chances are very slim of finding a reliable, cheap "EF" 4th gen
Yea, I don't mind driving older vehicles lol. I just sold my 91 5sfe mr2 and I owned a 80 z28 (was a piece of sh*t though) I wouldn't mind getting a ek if the weren't so damn expensive. Right now I just have a 1000 to the side an just need a beater for now.

There's a point where "too cheap" just becomes unreliable and a big waste where it would have made sense to wait. $500/700 car may end up being a 1.5-2K car to get it running/legal then you're in "3x" the initial price. Eks flood the market here $800-1,400 rust free and in decent shape just look/be patient.
Don't take it personally, but if I only had "1,000ish" I wouldn't even be looking at cars it's extremely rare something for or under the 1K mark will be pay and drive with no extra work($$$$) needed. I'm just trying to help i'd hate to see you waste what you have if money is a concern.
I just realized I read your post wrong. I thought that the 4th gens were reliable with all the damn miles people rack up on em and since d15s are cheap to replace(correct me if I'm wrong) I would love am ek hatch though. Hell I've seen some 00+ si's going for $2-3000 but alas I'm a poor lad.

I live in louisiana and they don't give a sh*t about emissions. I've always gambled with cars I've bought so I'll take a chance with a 4th gen hatch if I could get one for 7-800 bucks. Where are you from?
If there's no safety(cert)/emissions process where you are I guess best of luck to you just don't get burned by some kid trying to unload his failed/hacked up project so he can buy some new vape pens(joke).

Downtown Toronto/southern Ontario
Yea I live in the south and its pretty lax down here for emissions. But I hear what you're saying, I haven't been burned yet luckily lol. I envy everyone in Canada. Driving skylines & type r's without fearing for THE MAN.
