my front left wheel has play, how do I tell if it is my tie or wheel bearing? thanks in advance guys.

 

Put the front end on jack stands. Grab wheel at 12/6. Wiggle. Grab at 9/3. Wiggle. If it moves at 12/6 but not 9/3, it's a ball joint. If it wiggles at 9/3 but not 12/6, it's a tie rod or tie rod end. If it wiggles at both, then it's more likely a wheel hub bearing.
