Default timing problem

Well I have a 2000 accord ex with 130,000 on it
Just bought it so decided to put timing belt on it. The problem I am having is that is having trouble self adjusting the balancer belt.It would adjust but move when trying to tighten. Held the adjuster in place and tightened it, good I thought but it jumps loose on the first start. New bearings, belts any ideas thanks in advance Oh it is 2.3 F23A1

Thanks Mike. No it is just slipping or popping out of tension, nut is still tight a and tensioner bolt is tight I am thinking the bolt holding the tensioner bearings must be bent.

I usually wrap the belt around the front balance shaft(flanged cog), crank, and while keeping the timing marks lined up, slip it over the rear balance shaft cog making sure the only slack is the part of the belt under the idler. The belt is not going to be under tension, just the slack needs to be removed.

Can you post a picture of the problem/slack issue.

Not right now. it is all put back together again. Understand what you are saying, but the tensioner moves up causing to much slack and a popping sound on start up and shut down. Will take the bolt/stud out to get straight edge on it. Have ordered new bolt and nut from honda dealer. 24hoursto wait till i go at it again thanks again

The balance belt is going to have slack, more than the timing belt. This is normal. If you do the correct tension procedure, allowing the springs to do the work it should set the tension automatically.

It does holmesnmanny bet then it pushes itself up and allows to much slack. as i stated the slack is removed then tighten the adjusting nut and it moves up and allows to much slack again

i think the bolt is bent at the stud to thread part . have ..a shop manaul pdf and followed procedure to the letter except for balancer belt trick of mad mike that i had previously read on another thread. this pushes.the tensioner up as it gets tightened

This.

Seems like you are skipping a step or possibly missing the washer between the acorn nut(#21) and tensioner(#23) when tightening the nut the rotation would cause the idler to move. Not to be confused with the sealing rubber washer(#22).
