Okay so i have a 2000 civic with a b18b1. Just recently i noticed that as soon as i turn my car on theres a slight noise that lasts a second then goes away it sounds kind of like a grinding noise mixed with a chirp. It comes from the passenger side of the engine. It doesnt happen when i crank it but right after the car turns on almost instantly the noise happens, lasts like 2 seconds then goes away. I doubt its my transmission because i turn the car on while its in neutral and i dont even have to press the clutch in while it turns on, even while in neutral the car makes the noise. It comes from the passenger side of the engine so it cant be the belt, i have no power steering ac any of that. Any thoughts on what it could be?

 

Get an engine stethoscope to pinpoint the source of the noise.

Gear on the starter possibly?

sounds like the starter, is it aftermarket or Honda? usually only the after market ones do that.

 

Im not entirely sure if its oem or aftermarket. i bought this car off of someone it just started to do this recently i tried calling the guy but no answer. Im going to get a video of it tomorrow, it only does it after i leave it overnight
