Default Setting timing Q..?

Hello HT. I recently changed out my distributor and lost setting it was set at, the car had a tune with hondata s100 unit already installed when I purchased the car and don't know what settings it was at. Car doesn't feel as strong as it used it to I just eye balled the distributor as close as I could get it to where it used to be. I'm planning on grabbing a timing light and was wondering what I should set my timing at? Thanks!

You could set it to the factory specs based off the crank pulley.

What Car? Engine? Year?

It's a Ek hatch with 2000 ITR swap mild n/a build, so should I just set the distributor till the middle line of the 3 on the pulley lines up with the timing cover that's it?

Yes, assuming it was done that way when it was tuned previously. You are more or less playing with fire here (LOL pun)... a timing light is the ONLY way to adjust a distributor; not by a mark, not by ear, not by feel, etc...

Just so you know, when you change distributors the previous clocking position is 100% irrelevant. The new one may wind up in the exact position as the old one, but chances are it will be off and with a tuned car - it is that much more important to have it reset properly. BUT, since you didn't check timing before hand, who knows where it was at: 18*, 16*, 14*, etc...

Do you think 16 deg is safe? Is that what most tuners set it at? If I need to get into the s100 installed on my car currently and retune or whatever, what all hardware would I need to do that? I know the s100 is a pretty old unit but it's all I have right now.

What year EK and Which ECU are you running with the S100? Any internals changed on the engine or just intake header and exhaust?

As onebadturocrv said we can only guess because you are using aftermarket software that was tuned by someone else.

I personally would try the factory setting with the middle line and go from there.

Hot tip: paint the crank pulley with some white nail polish so it is easier to see.

97 hatch and p28 ecu. It does have jun 3s cams, gears, crower valve train, ss valves and ihe. I'll will try the middle line on the pulley and see if that makes it run better or not? If it is too much what will the car run like?
