A few question about Engine harness and transmissions
I have a 1997 honda civic dx hatchback non-vtec sohc.
When i got the car it came with a sohc vtec top end with and i wanted to put it on but i didnt have the plug for the vtec solenoid so i thought about getting one out of the junk yard from an accord. Story goes on and learning that i would need cam sensor and a few other thing like ecu and i didnt really know if that would be worth it or just to buy a new dohc vtec Engine. So i was wondering if i could use my transmission without buying a new one and how i would go about getting the correct harness for that Engine? Plus what if i dont have half of the plugs that the new one comes with do i get check Engine lights? And i know a good amount of stuff for cars to attempt it but i just feel like i need more help or info on it. any insight will be appreciated for sure thanks.

You didn't specify if your transmission is automatic or manual.
I suspect from your questions it's an automatic and you will have challenges with your OBD2 ECU's vtec and transmissions.
I think you will need to find both the 96-98 EX ECU and Automatic Transmission to convert your car to the D16Y8 vtec head setup.

Automatic or manual doesn't particularly matter if you're considering a DOHC swap - the transmissions are not compatible. If you just want to install the D series VTEC head on your motor, though, that's easy if you have a standard transmission. If you have an autotragic, stop, right now, and look into converting to standard before you worry about anything else.

Putting the VTEC head on the non-VTEC motor is easy, and has been done thousands of times. It's called a mini-me. Check the FAQ for more information.

It's all good, OP went a few different directions.
