F20b swap running rich/no vtec
I just bought a 2000 civic that was swapped to a jdm f20b running on a (stock non chipped according to prev owner) p28. The car gets 9 mpg(i actually checked) and you can smell the gas when it runs. Just by doing a bit of snooping in the bay i saw that the map sensor was unpluged and i had the car on a lift and saw the oxygen sensor on the exahust pipe was cut by the wire.
The car also has a check engine light on. There is also a slight jump in rpm at idle. Nothing major, just like 1k rpm to 1.2k rpm. Its not very a very frantic jump.
I know nothing of hondas and i've been an old school/carbed car guy before this. This honda is my newest owned car, the last car to hold that title was from 1970. I should probs invest in an obd1 reader(thats what a p28 is right?) to figure out the codes.
I also never seem to pop vtec and a friend who drove it confirmed vtec doesn not pop(vtec never kicked in, yo!!!) Dont know whats up with that
Anybody want to help me track down these problems?

What kind of conversion harness are you running? Rywire's harness has two wires that come out of it which can be connected to a switch. Once the switch is connected with the ignition in the on setting, flip the switch and your engine codes will be flashed to you via the CEL.
Hondas do not engage Vtec with most CELs.
If the ecu is not chipped, then it still needs a closed loop o2 input. So that could be why you have a CEL. Not having the map sensor functioning would also throw a CEL I believe.

How else would I check the codes? Do I use obd2 or 1 scanner and where would I hook it up to? Im taking her to a tuning shop tomorrow, would you happen to know estimate cost for all this? Thank you
Yeah i think you could use a scanner but i don't have experience using one so I couldn't tell you. I don't know how much the tuning shop would cost because it depends on where you live and other factors, but maybe if there is multiple tuning shops in your area you could call around and compare prices.
