Default *HELP* 99 Civic EX Problems after Replacing Engine

Hey H/T...need Help/Advice in regards to a 99 Civic EX Sedan

The info: 99 Civic EX Sedan Automatic with a D16y8 180K on both body and engine. One of the rod bearings got loose and shot through the oil pan. Replaced engine with another D16y8 bottom block and used the original head. Used all the original parts from the old motor including the Auto Transmission.

Problem:
-Struggles to accelerate and then finally recovers going from 1st gear to 2nd
-2nd to 3rd gear the RPMS go up to 4.5 RPMs and changes after you let off the pedal
-when you slightly add more gas, engine revs up to 4.5 RPMs as if you floored it
-after complete warm up, car barely tries to accelerate

Ive already changed out the ATF fluid and also changed out the Torque converter. Still the same problems. Only thing I did not do with the new TC was pre-fill it. I see on the net that its okay that you don't.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. this car is my nephew's and he needs it going.

thanks!

Start off by checking your mechanical and ignition timing. The acceleration issues you're describing pretty perfectly line up with improperly set timing.

Hey thanks for the reply...Everything is at TDC when I put the head on n all...already adjusted the timing using the timing light. I actually had to push it back from its original position since there was a mark already there...about 2 degrees...

am I missing something still? Ill try it again and see if it makes a difference.

Is the CEL on? Does it work? It should come on for ~2-3 seconds when you first turn the key to ON(II), then turn back off. If it doesn't turn on at all, then the bulb is blown or removed and needs to be replaced. If it stays on, you need to pull codes.

Hey. Yes the CEL works. Ive made sure it worked by pulling a plug. I have a OBDII Code reader as well.

No Codes being pulled at all.

Exactly which line are you using to set timing? A picture would be good here. There are four of them. Your issue just sounds too much like timing to not be to me.

Check for swapped sensor connectors. Make sure the connector wire colors all match to the sensor.

Is setting the ignition timing to the white TDC1 mark even possible?

Physically possible, yes. Possible for the engine to run, however, I don't know. There was a guy in here a few weeks ago who had set his ignition timing off the solo mark, but I don't remember if his car ran well, if at all.

WAY wrong. There are multiple sensors that share plug types, with different wire colors. Nearly all 2 wire plugs are the same. Nearly all 3 wire plugs are the same. The only difference is the color of the wires.

okay...so last night I went ahead and checked the timing...got the car to operating temp...jumped the service plug..connected the timing light...adjusted the dizzy...

so the car is running a bit better with the timing...problem now is that the Red mark is not lined up with the arrows...the dizzy is literally advanced (pushed toward the firewall) all the way it can go...so timing is still off...Im most likely missing something right?

in regards to the sensors...didn't get to it..but ill check it out again and match up the colors of the wires of each... if it was still wrong...wouldn't the CEL come on?

The mechanical timing is off by a tooth if the engine was idle at spec rpm during check of the ignition timing.
