Default Clutch kit for max reliability

hello guys,

It's 91 civic ef with d15b1 and 4 speed tranny. I am going to throw in a rebuild engine. I want to throw in a new clutch set as well. My goal is to get maxium reliability. I have a few questions regarding this topic:

1. EXEDY stage 1 clutch kit with flywheel a good option?
2. What about EXEDY pro kit compare to the stage1?
3. Would that be an overkill if I put on a stage2? And maybe it is going to sacrifice driveability?
4. I have seen a lot of clutch kit with new flywheel for about 100 bucks (XTR, PPC,etc). Are they worth trying?
5. I lean towrads kit with flywheel because resuracing flywheel will cost 30 bucks in my area...
6. Any other better options?

stage 1 will be great for what you are doing.
Stage 2 is overkill and not really going to enhance your reliability unless you up your power level quite a bit.
$30 isn't bad for resurfacing. It is a lot less than what a replacement will cost you.

If you want reliable I'd go with Exedy oem replacement, or the Exedy pro. Do you have future goals? Boost? N/A build? Keeping it bone stock? If you want reliability and are keeping it oem just get your flywheel resurfaced, it'll run best with that flywheel if it's all stock. If you are going to build it up in the near future, then obviously getting a stage 1 or 2 with a lighter flywheel makes more sense! So it depends on what your goals are* not to sound like a broken record lol

I like the centerforce clutches. I have one on my D16, but haven't drove it in years. I don't remember it being bad. On my B18C it is amazing. I've never stalled, and I live in Pittsburgh.

I'm using one now with a 12 to 1 a6 with a cam and bolt ons. Thought about installing a stronger clutch when iput in an lsd trans last week...but decided why mess with what works.

While that compression ration really does exceed 'slightly modded' due to the work required, I really was aiming at the torque. How many ft-lbs does your engine make? I also do agree, no reason to mess with what is working. I have an exedy OE replacement on my CRX and it held P29s w/ Y8 head. I kept it when I swapped the pistons just recently.

I keep having money setbacks keeping me off the dyno. I need to get one of the dyno/acceleration apps and see what i can come up with. Compared to stock mybutt dyno says I'm making more power from 2500 to 7500 . if i can get something working i will post it. Wild *** guess says 120whp and 110 lb ft with at least 12 more hp possible with tuning...

That's well within the realm of stock-ish torque to me. I've seen some beastly A6's put down 100 ft-lbs with proper tuning and very mild mods. Still, it isn't a ton more torque compared to stock and the stock-ish clutches can handle it.

I have used an Exedy Stage 1 with 7lb Fidanza flywheel with my fully built B20 Vtec (250hp/160tq). I don't drag race, but I so time attack, autox, hillclimbs. This clutch was totally fine for all of that.

So your d15 will be absolutely fine with an OEM exedy or the stage 1.

Clutch torque capacity needs to exceed the torque of the motor...take a look at some other people's specs that are comparable to yours to get an idea of where your torque numbers may land.
