Help me give my new ride a birthday :) [1998 5spd]
Hey all, I just picked up a 1998 CR-V in manual with 250km on it.
The last owner did pretty minimal maintenance saying he topped up the oil as needed over the last two years..
So first things first, tomorrow it's getting some love in the way of a new stereo, and a cut polish and some painted trim.. and much needed maintenance.
I would like to know what oil I should buy for it.
What spark plugs these engines like (B20B)
What else should I do? Fuel filter? Air filter looked clean.. clean/check IACV, dizzy cap and rotor?
Forgetting anything?
Cheers all!

This will give you a basic rundown of things that should have been done over the years.

Engine oil and filter. Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, PCV and fuel filter. Change the coolant, trans fluid and rear diff fluid if AWD.
Id look into doing a valve adjustment and check the condition of the timing belt. Id personally get ready to do that along with the water pump and other accessory belts. At that time it wouldnt be a bad idea to do cam and front crank seals as well. Check for oil around the base of the distributor. May need to replace the seal there too.

Oosh $$$ haha. I'm keen to check out the Exhaust valve gaps. Timing belt and water pump will have to wait, got another 50k due on the belt. Thanks for the advice

OK!
I have a problem.
After refueling at BP yesterday the V started bogging down/misfiring under acceleration. It was brief at first but by the time I got home it was constant unless I very gently opened the throttle. It feels like spark or bad fuel or fuel pump. I gave the petrol station a call and they say the fuel has tested OK.
I drained out the entire tank anyway, and put Shell 95 in there, swapped plugs to another set, cleaned all the points in the dizzy, found and fixed a manifold air leak, put in a new fuel filter and set the valve clearance for exhaust and intake.. Interestingly the valve clearance was too great on most of them, so I really had to tighten things up instead. After all this it was running great into town and for the first time power really kicked in at 5k+rpm, like a vvti system or something. Then it started bogging down again a little, but not to the point of yesterday.
Pretty unsure what the next step is. I think I've done all the cheaper fix options. Still think it might be a fuel issue..
Any thoughts?
