Default Civic throttle question?

Hi, New to forum.

my better half has a Honda Civic 1.4 sport (2001).
Just recently the revs have been rising when idle.
It doesn't happen all the time, but fairly frequently.

I thought it might be a potentiometer fault, but not sure if this model/year has one?
Any advise will be gratefully received

Regards

Bob

Maybe a sticky Idle Air Control Valve and/or a throttle body cleaning is needed.

Interesting...thank you.

Are there any w/shop manuals (maybe) that would cover this please?

As i said..It's not my motor, so have never worked on it before

Could I suggest you search on "IACV cleaning" or "throttle body cleaning" for more info.

Other searches could be "high idle" or "fluctuating idle" or "adjusting idle".

Thanks again.
I did do a search after you gave me that excellent advice and came up with some stuff on you-tube.
I'm assuming this will apply to most cars that age?...

Yes, that is a good video. I personally have not done the complete job in the vid. I have cleaned the throttle plate only from the top without removing the TB itself. I did not have any rough idling symptoms but did only as a half-azzed attempt at PM while changing the air filter. I believe you would need to do the complete job in order to get at the IACV and clean it. Hopefully this solves your idle issues and you see lots of carbon deposits on both the TB and IACV. If this doesn't solve, it is great PM on your 14 year old vehicle. Good luck.

again...thank you.
You've been a great help.

I'll have a look at the motor this weekend, and let you know how it goes.
If it doesn't cure the problem then at least it'll have a clean IAVC :D
