How much did you buy your new ITR for?
As the title says, I'm curious as to how much you paid for your new ITR and what year and what was the MSRP ? I've read that dealers marked up the price on itr's a couple grand over MSRP...
Got my 01 around 1/01 for 26k out the door in california. they forced us to buy the wheel locks and mud flaps but those were included in the otd price.
I think msrp was 24,600 that year.

It depends how you look at the inflation and calculate it.
But yeah I saw a post where they were asking if 45K was a good deal for a 5k mile PY ITR. If you do the math, from storage, insurance, maintenance, etc. You're close to $70k. And if you purchased 26K worth of GOLD in 2000ish it would be worth close to $130K... Just saying.

Todd, that wasn't my point. I simply commented on thadona805's calculation for inflation: Inflation Calculator | Find US Dollar's Value from 1913-2015. I'm assuming he made this post because of a Facebook posting about a 2001 ITR they wanted $45,000 for; and 90% of the people said it was not worth it because the vehicle was only ~$26,000 brand new from the dealership. What these people don't take into account is storage fees, insurance and liabilities, maintenance, etc. All I was trying to point out is an inflation calculator doesn't take into account any extraneous variables. And when you purchase anything, unless it's a good for consumption, it would be considered an investment. But that's just my business mind...
I've had this argument before and using the inflation calculator for an automobile's MSRP is no good for anything other than a conversation piece.
Hell, I'm sure 90% of the same people would say that certain older Porsche's aren't worth six figures, but they'd also be incorrect on that one as well.

someone should post up a meme with that south park character saying "if youre buying a car for an investment, youre gonna have a bad time." lol.
I was only trying to "guess" how much the new civic type R would end up selling for based on msrp of the itr in 2001 adjusted with today's inflation. So I'm guessing $35k minimum ?
Btw, never seen that $45k PY ITR post on Facebook, I don't even have a Facebook haha.
But if it is indeed a 5k mile py itr asking 45k, I can see it fetching $35k.

Bought brand new in 1998, $23K out the door, including all the ITR floor mats, but not the ITR trunk mat. I don't remember any mark-up on it. MSRP was $23.5k, with a $435 "destination and handling" cost but the dealer added A/C to the car, I still have the window sticker and the little sticker with the cost of the dealer add-ons, I'll have to look at it again to see how much they charged for the A/C, to get the full price of the car.
The car had 63 miles on it when I bought it, I'm sure it was driven hard. It bothered me that it had 63 miles on it, but I got over it quickly b/c there were no other dealers with an R on their lots, lol.

The dealer had two on the lot that week I went to go look at them. I came back the following week, and one of them sold, so they had only one left, and I bought it the following week. I was so worried they wouldn't have it, but they still had it. Years later I became friends with the guy who bought the other Type R. He traded in a 97 Mustang Cobra for the Type R, and I remember I was interested in the Cobra b/c I had seen it on the lot, come to find out it was his Cobra and he said its good I didn't buy it cuz it had transmission issues. lol!
I didn't even know how to drive stick at the time, and the sales guy said lets go for a drive, and I told him up front I didn't know how to drive stick and I was worried I might do something wrong, but he didn't care, lol. And during the test drive, it went super smooth, I didn't have any issues leaving from a stop in first gear at all (which was my biggest fear, cuz if you get in that herky jerky thing, i feel it makes you look so stupid, lol), and after that test drive I fell in love with the car.
Look at the '97 that sold for $43,xxxUSD. People may think that was a great investment but don't realize that $25,xxxUSD in 1997 infalted to about $40,xxx in 2015. So basically no money was lost but nothing was really gained, so to speak. An amazing attribute for any automobile but nowhere close to an "investment".
In Canada, every Acura dealer was charging $4,000 or more over MSRP. For every 1 that the dealer had available at least 20 people wanted it. Probably more. Out the door was well over $35K CAD at the time. That's why I could never buy one new, even though I tried for every year they were available.

I found my old paperwork for the car. MSRP $23,935; Dealer installed A/C $1299; Total price of $25,234
I was mistaken in my earlier post about getting the car for $23K out the door. I got the car itself for $23K. With an out the door price of $24,039.
And I confirmed there was no mark up at all.

My wife and I bought 98 #460 for just under $28K. AC and audio, checkered mats, extended warranty and $500 dealer mark up. It was our first new car. They ate us alive!
local dealer here wanted special vehicle mark up of 5k plus sticker price. i heard some people were able to haggle down to 2500 or 3k but nobody bought one with no mark up.
for this reason i was forced into buying a gsr instead of the type r. that markup blew my payments out the water .

I purchased mine in SoCal back in 1997 for about $25K before tax and misc fees. I also had to purchase wheel locks and mud guards as part of the deal.
