I have a 97 integra and when I put the car in drive the d4 dose not light up but park, reverse,d3,2nd,and 1st all light up on the dash. When I do drive the car the first two gears shift hard. I recently changed the transmission fluid that is the same as honda fluid. I also added some Lucas transmission fluid as well. If anyone could help that would help.

 

My first guess would be that the light in the cluster is burned out. I'd start by pulling the cluster and checking the bulb.

 

Mine has the same issues. New bulbs and a fluid flush did the trick for me. It's not flawless but it's considerably better. I'm at 175K, and will probably be rebuilding my motor and transmission at 200K. Depending on your mileage, I would consider doing the same.
