You could have also provided the corrected answer..... *sigh*

If I remember correctly that's the CYP sensor. It senses the cam shaft position based on that funky swirl part on the shaft.

Yeah they hate their lives so much, they come online to tell others how dumb they are, that's how unhappy these people are. It gives them "power" that they don't otherwise have in the real world. I've seen many posts like that on this forum.. I hope they get the professional help they need.

But back to the distributor, yeah I thought it was the igniter too, but otherwise it's the hall-effect (or doppler) sensor for the CYP (cylinder position sensor).. Which sucks because Honda built it into the housing, when they discontinue that housing, no more sensors are availble.. (mine is now discontinued, had to have "fun" finding an aftermarket that really worked properly, ugh!).

Ah damn I just now read your post. I hope I dont have any problem finding one. If thats even my problem. My problem may actually be the ignition control module. I'm going to replace it first but i noticed that plastic on the outside of the CYP sensor is cracked. Would that cause any problems?

yeah if the cyp sensor is cracked, then there's a good chance moisture/dirt got inside. You can test the cyp sensor with an ohm meter, it's in the fsm (factory service manual). But the HX is the Hitachi distributor on mine, since it was lower production numbers they discontinued it. I think the regular distributor (tec brand) is still available. Check out collegehillshondaparts.com and put in your car, should show you if it's available.

I would test out components before throwing parts at it. Especially if one of them (cyp sensor) is physically damaged.

EDIT: You never mentioned what year/model/trim civic that came out of. I did look up the tec distributor for the 96-2000 civic, two different part numbers, but the tec is still available.
